Three cheers for root beer! It should be your carbonated beverage of choice--if you treasure your teeth, that is. A study at University of Maryland, Baltimore, found that root beer is easier on tooth enamel than other sodas. Coke, Pepsi and Dr. Pepper all weaken and permanently destroy tooth enamel.

Non-cola sodas, like Canada Dry ginger ale, Mountain Dew and Sprite, are the hardest on teeth because of acidic flavor additives. Diet sodas, while sugarless, don't fare any better as they still contain the same damaging additives. You only have one set of choppers, so be choosy next time you drop a chunk of change in that soda vending machine. Here's to smart sipping.
